Hello, I'm Collin.

I'm a philomath with an immense and diverse curiosity about the world around me. That's why I strive to learn more every day. And learning more all the time is key to staying competitive in this fast-paced world. Along those lines, I'm a big fan of Charlie Munger's quote that roughly goes something like this:

"If you don't learn how to think, you'll go through life as a one-legged man in an ass-kicking competition."

Every day I strive to learn something new so I go to sleep smarter than I woke up that morning. Doing so each day compounds and yields exponential results over time and helps me avoid being one-legged.

Below is a brief overview of me and my experience within my different domains of practice. Also, I share my principles and latticework on this website.

Building Industry

I received BS and MS degrees in architectural engineering from Kansas State University, which propelled me into the building industry (architecture/engineering/construction or AEC industry). Since graduating, I've worked at global integrated design firms where I provide management, consulting, and design services.

Since then, I've designed/assessed/consulted/managed projects for clients in the following sectors, totaling over 15MM square feet of buildings in over 20 states.

Finance and Investing

Business, finance, economics, accounting, investing, and commerce fascinate me. I explore these areas in both academic and practical manners. Academically, I consume tons of information in books, articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, and newspapers. Practically, I'm a managing partner of Wheeler Investment Group, a small family investment firm.

Leadership and Management

I further explore ways to grow my knowledge and skills in business and management with Engineering Echelons. This free newsletter shares the best of what I'm reading and thinking about to help engineers navigate and excel at management.
